Many others have complained about the lack of specs for drill size. The complaints go back a year, and it’s still not fixed. I don’t have the sizes suggested by the reviewers, so I have to go back to the dang store. Scotch/3M’s “customer service” is just for show. They obviously don’t listen to their customers.

Excellent solution and high quality for leveling a small printer stand project. 5/8″ hole for inserts is correct, but recommend working the hole just a bit in hardwood (dowel) to make it easier to get inserts in. Also, drill hole full length of feet, not just insert, for maximum adjustment.

Easy to install and good quality. Only thing lacking was a specific instruction for a drill bit size to use. Easy enough to figure out though. Great product.

The package instructions say to use a “small” drill bit. The info on your site doesn’t give a size either. Another review from 10 months ago complained about the same thing. He used a 5/16″. But I don’t have anything close to that size, so I have to go back to the friggin’ store.
How hard is it to put the drill size on the packaging? This is just dumb.

It requires a 5/16′ hole for the insert and a 1/4″ for the stem, so it is a dicey thing if the cabinet has thing panels. It works out okay if you mark your drill bits with tape to the depth required.

I am so impressed with with the ease of installation and the effortless way the glides totally work. I have a small tv cabinet that weighs approximately 80 pounds and no matter what I put under the legs (various brands of furniture mover) it was difficult to move. After spending a few minute installing the glides I was so thrilled to be able to move the cabinet with ease. This 3M product exceeded my expectations and I plan to get more for other heavier pieces of furniture that are very difficult to move.

As many others mentioned, 3M gives no guidance on the size of the hole to drill. Based on comments by others, I used 11/32 in hardwood. The plastic inserts would have shattered with a smaller hole. The top rings of the inserts still broke off, but that may be by design. We’ll see how they hold up under load. 3M is a major company, so the poor quality of the instructions is disappointing. The company should be able to afford to hire competent engineers and technical writers.

Awful. Get the Ace brand. Directions horrible. Quality atrocious. Doesn’t say drill bit size or depth of hole. Plastic housing too weak. Shredded itself as I screwed in one of the feet. Also too long for what’s needed for most furniture. Definitely don’t use on angled legs of any kind. The worst. Almost ruined legs of a freshly reupholstered chair.

I have plastic storage drawers that work fine but the plastic legs included didn’t last more than a month before collapsing. I want the unit raised off the floor so I had it resting on 2 pieces of lumber cut to size. I applied these glides onto the lumber. They were easy to apply and I can now slide the unit across my real wood floor, with no problems. I love them and will be adding them to the other furniture in my room.

We received this item free for an honest review. The steel glides work well, however I have one small complaint. In my humble opinion the size of the drill bit for the drilled holes should be in the instructions, it only says drill a small hole and that just won’t do. I would have to start small then work up to the size drill that would allow for a snug fit of the plastic sleeve. The correct size drill would be very helpful.

Seen alot of reviews mentioning how the plastic included is fragile and there is not a drill bit size that perfectly fits it. The drill bit sizes are either too small or too big. To fix that, buy a 1/4 threaded insert. It is more sturdier than the plastic included.

Who designed the packaging? You need to put the drill bit size. Which we found to be 5/16th not 1/4 which someone posted.
However these levelers worked great for our island in our 100 year old beach condo. The floors are very in level and these did the trick!

For any home setting where the floor surface make be uneven, this product is ideal to use for the purpose of leveling-up various pieces of furniture. However, the brief 3-step directions on the rear of the package leave MUCH to be desired. Step 1 does not specify which size of drill–bit to use, nor does it mention any simple method to find the true center of the furniture leg. All 3 steps of the directions are printed in SUCH a TINY, microscopic font, that you need serious magnification in order to read the text. Even with a fairly good product, the job is NOT done unless the manufacturer provides clear, concise, and understandable directions.

The same as a couple other reviewers, I was amazed that there is no package info concerning the drill bit size required. Read a 3M response to that question that a 1/4″ bit is needed. Incorrect. A 5/16″ is the bit size for the hole. I tried a 1/4″ hole and only managed to mangle the plastic insert. Then tried the 5/16″ and was smooth sailing from there. They’re decent levelers though and worked well. But c’mon man! Stop using the lazy way out and put 5/16″ on the package!

I was looking for the leveling glides with the steel inserts, but were not available, I took this that were ready available as I didn’t have time to go seek elsewhere for the steel inserts. I did put them on my project any way and they work just well.

Called the company to get the pilot hole size I should drill before inserting the plastic inserts. (No directions on the package) They recommended 1/4 bit. I almost ruined one of the plastic inserts using 1/4 pilot hole Ended up using a 5/16 bit.
In my opinion, inserts should be made of metal instead of plastic

The directions say to drill a “small” hole to install the plastic insert. You need more detail than that. 1/4″ is too small. 3/8″ is too big.
I drilled a 5/16″ hole in a walnut leg and the plastic insert split when I installed it. I think a larger hole is needed in hard woods. 11/32″ should work.
I like the steel glider itself. I think it may last longer than a plastic “foot”.
I think these should ship with metal “T” nuts to install in the leg as that should install easier and last longer.
I will probably return these and look for a glider with a better insert.

I had hoped these would fit a wire shelf I have in the garage that had lost one of its self-leveling feet. Unfortunately, they didn’t fit but, then again, I’ve never been able to find anything to fit that shelf. It’s still a high-quality product and will be good for me to use under a chair. It was a pleasant surprise to see that 3M makes useful products like this.

Glide is excellent. Plastic leg inserts are junk. Flange breaks off on insertion. Save the aggravation and get some steel T nuts.

We always had trouble with one chair wobbling, (we got it second hand). I think the previous owner had to tried to level the chair himself trying to fix the wobble by trimming off the other 3 legs. In other words, the chair still wobbles. 3M sent me free, 4 Leveling guides to use and then write a review. They were a little difficult to install but what a difference. No cutting off legs, or gluing shims. If you have any furniture that needs leveling I urge you to try Scotch brand Leveling Glides, and see for yourself.

Bought these to level two 4′ x 2′ tables. These tables are not loaded with anything other than standard stuff that goes on a table – no dancing elephants, etc.
After less than a year’s service, 6 out of the 8 levelers have broken and fail to work. The failure point is the small plastic flange at the bottom of the threaded sleeve. It breaks off and separates from the sleeve, leaving the threaded stem of the leveler to flop around uselessly.
I should mention that these are being used with plastic table legs, which are hollow. It’s possible that if these are inserted into a hole drilled in solid wood, the threaded sleeve would have better support and might not fail.
At any rate, a major fail for this application.
